Featured Advice from Our Experts
When my wife and I became horse owners in 1998, we were under the impression nothing could be easier. “Provide some grain, hay, shelter, hoof care and water,” I said, “and that’s about all there is to it.” We knew we had to train them to be able to ride them, but people like John Lyons or Pat Parelli provided workshops for that. A piece of cake, right? Wrong...

This is our second one. After 20 years, the first one wore out where it was bucked. I highly recommend it! Well worth the money.
It worked on my horse, but had to be so tight that it left horrible rubs. The front strap riubbed off part of my horse's forelock. I got the fleece covers but they were a poor fit for the collar and made of very cheap synthetic material and didn't help at all. The straps also stretch out a lot and you have to keep adjusting to tighter holes. Dare collar is much better.
"Didn't and still doesn't work for my gelding. He cribs with it on. I have tried different ways of adjustment, with and without fleece and still doesn't work for him. And yes, it has caused him to be a bit head and ear ""shy"" now. I should have saved the $40."
It's kind of hard to rate an object that didn't even last a whole weekend. I went down to feed yesterday and the front strap on the off side was ripped off the support. Obviously, it is not made good enough to be worn out in the pasture. Returning to the store later today.
"Best to Date"
Works the best of any I have tried to date. Would try the new Dare product but its pretty pricey so will stick with this as I know it works. Sometimes he tries to crib but I don't think he can actually do it effectively while wearing the collar. I haven't had rub issues and I keep it tight. I do oil the leather and keep it pliable. When this one wears out I will buy another. I have had this one on for 7 years now, outside.
It caused my horse to get sores on his neck even with two covers that I switched between keeping them clean. Made him head and ear shy from tightening it (even had my vet check his ears). Didn't stop him from cribbing.
This is a great product. It works great for my boy. I just had to buy the covers to prevent rubbing. I have been using it for years and will buy another when and if this one wears out.
at my wits end....thought this would be the answer, put it on, tighter and tighter, she just turn back to the fence and crib! Its on so tight it looks like its choking her, but she still does it! Gonna try a grazing muzzle next
