"Not happy with them, didn't last one season"
The top plastic part that is sewn into the halter came apart within 2 months with one horse, three and a half months with another, and with the pony size, about 3 months. I still tried to use them, but when one horse got her the top part of the muzzle stuck in her mouth overnight, had to quit using. Very disappointed and won't buy again!
"Cons Outweigh the Pros"
I really tried to like this but it's not for me. It's flexible, has fantastic ventilation, an easy to use clip on the throatlatch, & almost all straps are adjustable but that's where my pros list ends. Cons: Firstly, the hole on the bottom of the muzzle rubbed/sliced a deep cut onto my horse's lip about 1.5-2cm long (he was in it only 5-6hrs a day). Next, the nylon is very thin and has relatively sharp edges, you will need halter pads/tubing imo. Lastly, the outer strap part of the Velcro quick release mechanism curls downwards and doesn't remain attached. I had to vet wrap mine down. I tried several adjustments to remedy the fact the muzzle bottom was continuously cutting my horse's lip but nothing improved the issue so I'll have to stop using it. As for sizing, the pony size didn't fit my Arabian (typically cob sized) at all, I had to move up to the horse size. However, the pony size does fit my standard donkey.
This muzzle is sturdy, but still has a velcro breakaway strap in case your horse or pony gets anything stuck. I don't have a Houdini, so this stays on pretty well and hasn't been tested in terms of staying power, but I do like the construction. The snaps are high quality, and the muzzle itself is well built and tough.
"Fits my large horse well!"
I like the sizing. Over time I will be able to comment on the durability. Very satisfied.
"Grazing muzzle "
I love the open air spaces available for the nose and allowing this to be not so stuffy and hot. The rectangular shape of the eating area doesn’t seem to change their eating ability. Or rather, they’re slow eating ability! I am very happy with this product.
I bought 2 of these muzzles and in less than a month the rubber near the mouth cracked and opened up on both of them.
This contraption is VERY heavy and not mesh, as described. The size of the muzzle is so big around, even for my large horse, I would be very worried that she could stick her foot in. Not happy with this, not at all what I expected.
"bottom design is great"
The design of the bottom lasts longer and seems to rub less on some horses than the other brands. Make sure you order the larger size than you need.
Allows more air to nostrils than most muzzles. Also has a retangular slot rather than a round hole, which decreases wear and increases its longevity
I was worried that this might be too easy to remove, but it stays on pony just fine. Change in shape of opening is also better- takes longer to wear out. Nostril opening is much better for humid summers.
My horse was able to get this off way too easily. I gave it several tries, tightening it more each time, but it still didn't last more than a few hours before I would look out and see it hanging halfway off. I put it as tight as it could reasonably go...only a fingers width between the muzzle and his nose...but he still just pulled it right off. Very disappointed.
"New design of muzzle"
Jeffers was very helpful in determining what size I needed for my horses (not what I would have thought). The new design with the V strap in front is a great new feature, helps with horses who try to rub mask off. The one horse that hated muzzles is having no problems with having it on. Saw the new design on Tough-1's website and Jeffers helped me get it and at a great price.
I tried a regular horse size. It was too big for both of my horses, so I tried the next size down. It was too small for both horses. A small horse size would be just right, but there isn't one.
"Mixed emotions on this muzzle"
Bought one of these for my miniature donkey jenny because the full basket style muzzles make her sneeze non stop. She readily accepted this muzzle, and has worn it all summer every day without issue. Bought one for my mare; she also wore it all summer, and it's just now starting to wear (hole is enlarging). Went and bought more, for my little hinny mule and my other miniature donkey gelding. They basically destroyed them in less than a week. My little herd likes them better than the full baskets, and they are nice and adjustable, and light weight, but durability depends on the wearer. I will be going back to the full basket type for my "boys".
"Re: fit of this muzzle"
I bought the Easy Breath Muzzle for a 4 year old Hanoverian mare that has a very refined head. Even with a refined head, she takes the large size. It does have room to let out for a bigger head.
