The iron works very well did the horns on all my kids this year I just have the poor baby problem when they scream at least with this dehorner I only have to do it once and its done slidding it side was to remove the horn cap was a great idea then I didnt have to reposition the iron sideways
heat is too low to burn the skin let alone the horn!
I love this disbudder for my Nigerian Dwarfs and standard sized kids. It has lasted many years and is still going strong. Have only had 1 scur, and that was on the first goat disbudded so can be chalked up to user error
"Tiffany from the Cayman Islands"
We own about 40 goats and use this regularly for 8-10 day old kids. Have done numerous goats and only had one horn grow back (I blame on user error-it was one of our first). Works very well and gets VERY hot.
The first time we used this, we ended up with hundreds of dollars in vet bills to correct horrible scurs. Chalked it up to user error, but hired a disbudder ever after. Well, our professional disbudder's iron gave out, and we offered this up. Once again, we had bad scurs on very young "mini" breed goats (between a dwarf and a standard breed). So it wasn't all us. The shape of the pygmy tip is too funnel-shape and thin around the permimeter, making it really hard to work with. It digs in too easily. It seems kind of "slickery" compared to the wider base of the x50. We bought the x30 because a retailer claimed it was the BEST for mini breed goats and young kids. We did a ton of research and bought the most highly-recommended iron. I think the x50 is a better choice, and, if the tip size doesn't work for you, the x50 has interchangeable tips. The x30 tips are not changeable. Frankly, I'm surprised at how highly this is rated. I would NOT recommend it at all.
"Outstanding Customer Service"
"I purchased an X-30 dehorner with a 1/2"" tip(item R5-D1). We tried using it on our Nigerian Dwarf goats and realized it was too big. Not only did Jeffers exchange the unit with a 3/8""(item R5-D5), they paid for the shipment of the new one and the return shipping of the original! Wow! this type of customer service doesn't exist anymore. THANK YOU JEFFERS, White Chapel Farm"
I've tried many types of electric disbudders - this one is my favorite. Not only does it get real hot and work fast, but the company is great to work with if you ever need any problems addressed. Five stars!
"makes a hard job easy"
we use this for our Boer kids. holds enough heat to give a good copper ring in about 12-15 seconds. can be difficult to do additional burns to the 'cap' without burning surrounding area, but overall a great product
This dehorner works great. I disbud kids as early as a day old and this iron stays hot even in very cold temps. A stand would be nice but a nail on the wall works well for keeping the iron high enough so nothing touches it.
"Must have for horn disbudding!"
This is a must have for disbudding goat kids. We have a small herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats and the X-30 is perfect, not too small and not too big. It heats fast and is not too bulky too manuever and hold. Highly recommend burning your own horns and definitely using the x-30 to do so. No blood, no mess, very quick and clean.
"Good for Goats"
This is the disbudding tool we use for our Boer and Dairy Goat kids. It heats up fast and stays hot well. You do need to keep an eye on the copper tip if you use it a lot. It does get thin over a long period of use and then does not do a good burn.
My first Rhinehart X30 replaced a Lenk. My dad got it for me for Christmas in 1999. It now needs replacing because the tip has worn thin. I give it five stars for small herds. I might not recommend it for a large dairy. I like this disbudder much better than the X50 with the goat tip.
"Works Beautifully! "
I use this dehorner for our goat kids. It gets hot really fast, and stays that way between burns. There is virtually no wait time between horns. I have had this for 2 years now and am very pleased with it. It's also very comfortable to hold, not awkward. The metal shield works great to hang it on a metal panel between kids. Great product!
We use this dehorner for disbudding our sheep and it works awesome! I would totally recommend it, although I do wish it came with a stand or something for when it?ÇÖs warming up and cooling down. We use a metal tin with rocks in the bottom to balance the weight.
