This clipper is much better than our Oster 2 speed. We use it on our Boer goats. It is so much quieter! You can clip for 2 hours before it even starts to feel warm. The Oster gets hot and you have to take frequent breaks to let it cool. You can use the Oster blades on this clipper too which was a bonus for us. Clipped 7 goats so far with ease, except for the one with cashmere.
This is my second set of these Andis clippers. I bought the first one years and years ago and it still runs great. I thought it would be good to have a second set (this one has a higher speed than my first one) so I can swap them out when they get warm when I'm clipping and I can have a backup should one need to be sent out for repair (which hasn't happened yet). I groom my own dogs--schnauzer and cocker spaniel--so they get a work out.
I really like the cutting power these clippers have. However, they get very hot very quickly. I cannot complete clipping one leg and I have to switch blades. My horses, that are usually great to clip, hate these clippers. I'm not sure if I got a bad pair but I would not recommend them at this point.
"Best Clippers I've Ever Used"
These clippers worked great on my horse's winter Cushings coat. With other clippers this size, I've gone through 3 or 4 blades just to get one full clip done, but these clippers finished with sharpness to spare on the blades we started with! They work as well as the Oster Clipmasters I have used in the past, but are smaller and easier to use. Also, these cost half as much as the Clipmasters! I highly recommend getting the Andis Blade Care Plus dip to go along with the clippers. It's the best thing I've found for keeping clippers (of any brand) running cool and clean.
"Oster died so I bought Andis"
I have worked for Oster for several years and was extremely loyal to the brand, however once I tried Andis, there was no comparison. The Andis clipper never got hot (I used to wear gloves with my Oster) and was extremely quiet and didn't blow fur in my face. The best part is this thing does not break down! I'm converted!
We had several different sets of clippers before buying these Andis clippers. It wasn't long before we had a second set. We clip over 20 mini horses each spring and these just seem to not quit. If they do have an issue, it is always something very small and repair is very reasonable. Will always have at least 2 or 3 sets of these clippers in my clipper box.
