I purchased 2 of these to put in our barn and shop for the cats that like to go outside and they kept the water unfrozen during a very cold week. The wide flat design is stable, too and the cats don't tip it over.
"Perfect for my purpose!"
I got two of these for my chickens in the barn -- we've had a record cold spell here and the ice in their bowls formed faster than I could keep up with it. These bowls are perfect -- they don't use too much electricity and keep the water from freezing but it's never too hot. Very smart bowl :) I looked at a lot of heated bowls and these are by far the best made, best looking, and best functioning. (Some of the others didn't even have a 3-prong plug!) Couldn't be happier! (I noticed that the person from Greenwich had issues, but her issues are with the bowl SET not the individual bowl)
"K&H thermal heated bowl set"
I found these work OK but thermostat setting is off. Water is kept so warm, even on warm winter days above 32, that the cats hesitate to drink it and it evaporates so very quickly. Wet food goes bad in a few hours because it is too hot. Dry food gets stale too quickly, as well. It's great you can wash the stainless steel removable bowls, though. I wish I had just bought a single stainless water heater. This keeps the water too hot IMO.
"Stainless is the way to go"
A smaller bowl, about 3/4 gallon for my outdoor cats. Most bowls are designed for dogs or larger animals. I like the stainless bowl as plastics may have adverse effects. Works like a charm. No frozen water with temps in the single digits. Would recommend.
