We use these daily for our current bottle baby goats, and love them. My only complaint is that they do tear small holes around the base where they secure around the soda bottle mouth and can leak. This happens within a few weeks of using a new one and we have yet to be able to get more than 6 weeks out of one.
"Worked great after several failed attempts"
My kids got 4 bottle baby goats for Christmas. We tried the Pritchard first-complete and utter fail-especially for one weak baby. It was Christmas and most everything was closed. Went to Walmart and got the pet nursers-those leaked horribly, more than half the milk ended up on a towel rather in the baby. Ended up with these from a feed store on some glass soda bottles. We did enlarge the X's with some nail clippers, and they were a bit rediculously difficult to get on the tops, but-they all did great! And the one baby that hadn't fed in 2 days finally ate an entire 4oz in one sitting! This $1 nipple literally may have saved my $400 Nigerian dwarf doeling her life, along with the despair of my 7 year old daughter that loves her baby dearly.
I love these nipples, and have found over the years that they work the best for me. They're a little stiff at first, but if you run them under hot water, they flex a bit more. They work perfectly on plastic soda bottles, and are very durable. You may have to make the X on the top slightly larger to get a good milk flow. These things last for a VERY long time.
"Good for the money"
Have bought both these and the red ones for double price from local feed stores. My kids and lambs have NO preference, despite the local ones costing $1 more EACH.....a hungry kid or lamb has no preference on my farm. GOOD product for the money.....and YES, you will have to open the end, in both the red one as well as these blackones.....you can always open them but if they came pre large scored, and you wanted a smaller opening, HOW would that work for you? Well worth the money.
"Smells like tires"
These things are terrible. They smell like tire no matter how many times you wash them and the lambs refuse to nurse. www.FlipFlopRanch.com
I have used these nipples for years on goat kids and other livestock. They are too stiff! the ends need to be scored more for ease of nursing.
