Horse Blankets & Sheets: What You Need to Know

What You Should Know Before Buying a Horse Blanket (Definition of terms, how to measure, etc.)...

Description

Jeffers Basic Canvas Horse Blanket

Jeffers Basic Canvas Horse Turnout Blanket is water-resistant and has a heavy-duty shell with warm felt lining. This economy horse blanket features a green & tan, navy & white, or brown & white checkered print.

Please Note: The Jeffers Basic Canvas Horse Blanket is a great economy blanket for horses that are not as rough on their blankets. The canvas horse blanket is water resistant and designed to repel water but is not waterproof. All canvas horse blankets are designed with limited seams to protect the integrity of the blanket and its ability to repel water. For example, the bottom edge of the felt liner is not sewn into the blanket to help keep the blanket water resistant.

Basic Canvas Jeffers Blanket Features:

  • 2 adjustable chest straps
  • criss/cross belly surcingles
  • hind leg straps
  • tail flap
  • shoulder gussets

    "lining"

I didn't like the way they are changing the lining. it isn't sewed with the blanket. it is rolled up and you have to pull it down.it didn't help my horse this past winter at all. this is the secondth one I have bought like that the other one was put out by brookside. called kenninton I think

    "HEAVY canvas turnout"

These are not like the old canvas blankets; they do not smell! They are very heavy..no wind could possibly get through these! They are great for ice storms. We use these canvas blankets on the horses who tend to get the coldest in the storms.

    "Great Economy Blanket"

Bought 2 of these for my foals this year. They seem to have held up well, good belly and leg straps, not too warm, not too thin. Felt is on top half, so does a good job in colder weather with a horse that is not clipped. I would call these mid weight blankets. The canvas is very heavy to lift, though. Can't beat the price for an entry level economy blanket. I think the fit is very average, would fit a variety of shapes and sizes, tested by me on running, bucking, playing babies and they stayed on when properly adjusted!

"Jeffer canvas water resistant turnout Blakey for horses"

We brought 2 of these blankets. Our horses stayed warm and dry from ice storm. Was pleased. The blankets stay on well.

    "Turnout Blanket"

Ordered this turnout blanket for my pony and it worked great, kept him dry and protected from the winds(he has a open front run in shed). Customer service was great and made sure it shipped ASAP. Overall I will be ordering another next winter for my horse too.

    "Great Blanket for Low Price"

My horses went from being stalled to being outdoors 24/7 due to losing my barn in a fire. Purchased this blanket for a rough & tumble 2 year old. A few small tears but nothing that I wasn't able to patch myself. Great value for the Price!!! I intend to buy a few more before next winter.

    "Awesome"

I bought 2 of these last winter. My mare is hard on blankets. Very well made to deal with her. They look brand new. Just used them for the Jonas Storm. They horses are out 24/7 wind chills got below 0. I'll be ordering more for back ups.

    "FANTASTIC BLANKET! "

I would buy this blanket over the higher priced ones because it is so durable and tear resistant! I bought one last year and its still like new even with a rowdy stallion!

    "BEST BLANKET FOR THE $$$$"

We have bought several of these blankets over the past few years and they are the best blankets. Extremely durable and fit perfectly!!

    "great blanket"

Bought 4 of these blankets about 5 years ago. They are still holding up. Of course a few little tears from the fence. We have had some pretty harsh winters and these do the job. They can be worn for couple weeks without any show of rubbing or discomfort.

    "Not a good blanket"

This might be fine for stalled horses but not horses out in pasture. Several times a day I have to go out and re-adjust the blanks on both horses. Chest straps dont come together, holes to strap it together are just holes so coming apart. Straps underneath the horse are hard to latch and unlatch. I am going to cut the rubber padding off to help get it to come together easier. When we have temps below 0 I dont want to be out there more than a few minutes to put this blanket on as it is, I spend way to much time trying to get the straps under the belly to latch. I will stick with the nylon material from now on, the canvas is way to heavy and even heavier with ice and snow on them. I wont recommend this product to anyone.

    "Nice Blanket"

Very nice blanket for the price. Well put together and sturdy. Fits a bit on the large size. The only negative after using it for a week is that the front does not overlap at all. Even buckled on the tightest notch.
