"Goat weight tape"
I have one of these in each is these bins: hoof, first aid, dewormers, dispenser, kid, ob, nutrition support, and one hanging on the door to the mud room. If you take their weight the same way frequently it will help signal any problem before it gets severe. I do it at least once a week. More if needed.
It seems to be really accurate! I have yet to use mine but my aunt has the same exact one and I have used hers in the past. I was unsure at first so used the tape then weighed them on a scale and it was only off by half an ounce.... I was really surprised! I think this product is very useful for LARGER goats. It’s much easier to transport.
This is my first experience with this measuring tape. It seems accurate enough to use for determining medication dosages.
I've been using these for years on my standard sized dairy goats and found them to be pretty close to accurate. They last a long time, even when left in the barn. They are quick and easy to use and give a good idea of weight for medications/wormers.
"Great for DAIRY GOATS!!!"
I have larger dairy goats - Oberhaslis to be precise. I use these tapes constantly. I teach a goat care class and explain to my students that, even if it is not as accurate as a scale, if you always use it the same way (same tension and placement for ex.) then you can get an accurate reading weather or not your goat is gaining or losing weight. The person who gave it a poor review was trying to use it on miniatures - which is not going to work.
"Easy, handy and fast"
This is product is clearly labelled for use on fullsize dairy goats, and it works surprisingly well. Don't expect it to work on minis or pygmies. Your mileage may vary with boers.
I use it on my boer goats and found its pretty close When weighed on a scale. It gives a good enough idea for documenting weight gain on kids a month
"Didn't work well for me"
My goats are small dwarfs. I felt the weights were pretty far off. It may be I could use it then weigh them to compare and then deduct based on a percentage. Pretty much a waste of money for my uses
