I love this design for a trough tank deicer. They go right in through the drain hole of my Rubbermaid tank and don't allow my horses to pull the heater out of the water. I much prefer these to the drop-in variety. I have never had a problem with electrical shorts...my horses never get zapped from this design. I keep this thing in all winter, then box it up and pull it out next year. I can usually get two winters out of these before they go bad. Sometimes they are done in one winter's use, but they come with a warranty. A cheap way to keep your livestock's water from icing over all winter long.
