I have multiple cats and several of them greatly enjoy lying in this bowl. In fact it was quite humorous to see my largest kitty spilling over the sides while snoozing. None of the cats use it for scratching, though. I don't think it's really suited for scratching because it's so lightweight that it would move if the cat tried to scratch. I suppose a kitten could stand in it and scratch, but not anything over say 6 months old. So buy this as a nice bed and get an inclined/ramp-style scratcher where they can stand on it and rip to their heart's content.
