Sharp and stay sharp. Well made. They really make hoof care easy. I have had them for over a year and haven't sharpened them yet (have from 15-20 adult goats at a time plus kids). They could use it, but still work quite well as they are. Only bad thing I can say about them is when when you have them completely closed, the *sharp* tips bypass each other so they can still cut you when they are closed tight in your hand.
I'd always read that many people used plant pruners to trim goat hooves, but I'd never had any luck with them. I had always used wire cutters and a hand planer to trim my goats hooves. But after reading these reviews, I decided to give these shears a try and I was thrilled with the results! I trimmed my goats (large nubian does)in half the time, and the shears really DID cut the hooves like butter!! I am totally impressed :)
