I have bought a bunch of these bits over 20 years from Jeffers BEFORE they had a web site. I love them, they are great for young and small horses, can not beat them for fit and usage, but they will rust over aging (10-12 years)
"Unusable: Twisted and plating flaking off before ever worn."
A very inexpensive bit and the one I recieved has flaking plating fresh out of the package so will not be tried on my pony as the metal flakes would rapidly lodge in her gums. My bit is also badly bent. If I had recieved the actual, symmetrical bit pictured, I would take care of the flaking problem by sanding it and dipping it in beeswax which would allow me to use it as a trial bit until I found something better. However, the bit I received has terribly deformed shanks. Clearly not designed in, as both rein ends of the shank both face the right, by about 70degrees. (warp the picture and you'll get what I mean) Clearly someone dropped this one on the floor while it was still hot and deformed it. Bummer Jeffer's does not accept returns on bits, nor evidently does anyone provide any quality control. Buyer beware.
