We were delighted to find these cots last year. The mesh fabric dries almost instantly which is so important for use outdoors! It's especially nice that replacement covers are available since our large dogs love lounging on their cots so much.
Originally bought large size for an outside family of cats--five good sized cats would curl up on it in the hot Texas summer. When they passed away our second dog started to use it and loves it (our first dog would not get on it, but she is the type that avoids grates in sidewalks, unstable surfaces etc). Has lasted probably 3-4 years outside, through rain and shine and still going strong. Some of best spent money ever, great quality, great price.
Great bed!! Our Labs absolutely love these beds! I love the new design that doesn't require screws....we replace the cover about once a year.
GREAT BED! I have several large dogs and these beds last forever. The dogs love them also. Comfortable and it gets them off the concrete or ground! Wonderful for older dogs also!
"my dog loves this bed"
As soon as the bed was put together my dog was on it. Its in the back yard and keeps him off the concrete an out of the dirt. He weighs 61 pounds an does fine with them medium size bed. Thanks Jeffers from Quincy
I have one of these beds (in large) that is now about 10 years old. Most of that time it has been outside in all weathers. After years of use by two collies, the bed frame itself is still in great shape but needs a new cover. HOWEVER, after so long the screws holding the legs together are frozen or perhaps rusted in place. Because the heads of the screws are recessed and the screws themselves fasten into a kind of sleeve which is hidden inside the end pieces of the frame, it is impossible to get at them with a lubricant or a tool other than a simple screwdriver. I took the bed to the hardware store and also called the manufacturer, and nobody could think of a solution. So I will have to throw out the whole bed because I can't get it apart to install a replacement cover. If you leave this bed outside I would suggest loosening and retightening the screws every couple of years to avoid this problem. And be sure you can take the bed apart before you order replacement covers!
Love these for all weather. They dry fast for sun bathing, even in winter!
"Nice Idea For Small Dogs"
This is a nice idea for smaller dogs, but I bought two of these Coolaroo beds for my dobermans who have outdoor concrete kennels and their weight caused their nails to tear the fabric within just a few days. They were not scratching on the material, but as my dogs would lay down on the bed, their nails would push thru the fabric and cause the strands of the green material used for the bed to separate and fray. I have a female who weighs approximately 65 lbs. and my male weighs approximately 90 lbs. I do regularly trim their nails, so I do know that long nails wasn't the cause of this problem with the Coolaroo. Anyway, sent both of the Coolaroo's back to Jeffers and they refunded the cost of the beds with no issues. I do order various items frequently from Jeffers for my dogs and horses and believe they offer a lot of great products and have the best customer service! Thanks Jeffers for your terrific customer service!
"Nice outdoor bed - unfortunately very chewable."
I bought this bed for a dog that lives outside ( she also has an air-conditioned room with an orthopedic bed, night light, radio, and doggie door for 24/7 access in and out ) She didn't really take to it, but almost immediately started chewing on the exposed corners. Three weeks in, she chewed a LARGE hole in the middle of the bed. She doesn't chew up her other beds or her stuffed animals...this bed was the first thing she destroyed. Luckily the frame is fine so I'm going to order a replacement cover and bring it inside for our dog with orthopedic issues. ( she also has two orthopedic beds - don't worry, I take very good care of my pets! ). The Coolaroo bed is a good idea, just not for dogs that chew.
I purchased several of those beds for our local animal shelter, and was very pleased with how well they held up. In fact, it was even used by one of the large Anatolian shepherds and held up. Unfortunately a vicious stray dog later tore the cover, but we simply replaced it and now the bed is as good as new. I am now buying more beds so each kennel can have one by winter.
Bought this bed over 2 years ago. It has been outside in the weather from day one, and except for a bit of a sag, I have not yet replaced the cover. My old lab with bad hips loved it through her last year. My younger lab also loves it, and my new boarder collie(?) mix (who is a chewer!) also loves it. I put rugs & blankets on it in the winter, and my 90 lb lab & 25 lb mix snuggle up on it together. In the summer, I leave it empty to let the air circulate and they both use it frequently. My chewer has not messed with the bed, even though she has chewed up water buckets, dog bowls, plastic decorative fencing, the plastic swimming pool, rugs, and every toy you can imagine. I think she knows not to destroy something she likes so much. :)
I had purchased this bed for a local animal shelter and was pleasantly surprised how well it help up. I must also say that some of the stay and vicious dogs that come up are not always kind to the bed, and so I had to order a replacement cover a few months later, but they are very inexpensive and easy to switch out. I am also certain that with regular home use the bed would last for many years. - I am also ordering more beds for the shelter, as overall they are much more durable than what I had originally expected.
"My dogs love this"
I was a little concerned when I first asembled this, but 2 years later I a just now buying a replacemet cover. My dogs love it. Works great on my patio. Would buy one again!
If your dog does not chew and you are willing to constantly tighten the screws, then they are great. My dogs love to lay on them, but several of them chew the cover immediately. Two days max usage, My older dogs, who did not chew on the beds liked them, but every week or so I have to tighten the connection or the beds fall apart. Guess you get what you pay for. I now make my own covers but still have to deal with the flimsiness.
"Last bed I will ever buy!!!!"
"Like Donna V's dog, mine actually SMILED too! My 6 year old Doberman loves to ""move"" her bed and blankets in and out of her house and around in her pen. During the rainy months they get wet and for a doberman, this is not good. I purchased this bed hoping that it would keep her dry (every pet owner knows you can't change them so learn to work around THEM!) Anyway, I gave it to her yesterday and she literally ran around the pen in circles and ""catapulted"" off the bed like a trampoline. I haven't seen her this excited since she was a puppy! She refused to get off the bed. I was worried in reading the reviews that it would take time for her to use it but am I glad I decided to purchase it. I bought an extra cover ""just in case"". I am expecting years of great things from this bed!"
