These are really durable, and a great value. The cows don't break them. We now use the plastic ones as our water, or the proximity to the salty coastal air, seems to cause the metal ones to corrode and crack. I saw one reviewer having leak problems. This only seems a problem at very high pressure. Jeffers, the pressure rating should be included, this is important. We did have to put in a high pressure Jobe float on one range trough at the bottom elevation of a big system with several hundred feet elevation difference.
"Works Pretty Well"
These work really well rather than having buckets and constantly filling them with water. We had a metal case one for 10 years, and just had to replace it. But mostly because we had a couple of bucks in the pen that are just rough on everything. The plastic ones work well but in the cold of winter over the years they swell and crack - need to replace them about every 5 years. Still not bad for the price. You can pretty much use any bucket, we typically use the big molasses tubs, they aren't really deep, but hold lots of water.
"Does the job"
I purchased both the plastic and metal case float valve. The seals on both were not great. The hose leaked a bit where it connected into the valve. It was worse in the plastic case one. But once I got the hose plugged, they did the trick. Kept me from leaving the hose on and overflowing the trough. A cheap way to auto-water your livestock.
