I've been using this great coat for my german shepherd, and have come back to buy one to use as a calf coat. In both cases the straps are way too long -- they seem ideal only for the folks using these for their pregnant goats, which is awesome, but for the rest of us, here's an easy fix that worked for me: you can fold the extra strap length back onto itself (leaving the velcro ends exposed) and use a lighter to melt the nylon so that it holds together for the folded back section (kind of gluing it). Be careful, as the molten nylon is obviously very hot, and if you hold the flame to it too long you can set it on fire, so, use common sense. But if done carefully, this is an easy, long-term adjustment that holds up very well.
We live at 7000 feet in the very wintery, windy mountains. We have very large Nubians who are now very pregnant. We ordered the 30" (largest) ripstop dog coat and were delighted to find that it fit both of our 2 year old does (150 pounds before they were pregnant) perfectly and the coat is only a little short on our big 4 year old 200+ pound goat. The long straps are a lifesaver when you're expecting triplets in three weeks. Nice quality, and I'm ordering more.
I absolutely love these blankets. My dogs stay warm and dry. They fit very well. I have no problems with straps being to long. I like them so much I just ordered a fifth one. :)
