Incubator with solid state circuitry for long-lasting and reliable temperature setting. Fan kit pulls in fresh air to stabilize temperature and improve hatch. Comes with a built-in Hygometer to reference both temperature and humidity. Red indicator light shows when the heater is opening. Large viewing windows. Additional thermometer is included.
I purchased my incubator with the automatic turner during a special sale Jeffers offered during the Christmas season. When the incubator arrived, I was impressed by the electronic thermostat, the reference thermometer and hygrometer and a few other features I would expect to find only in more expensive models. I set aside the incubator until spring. I have since completed three incubations and hatches of chicken eggs, each producing a lower percentage hatch than I would expect, less than 25% in all cases. I have five other table-top, styrofoam incubators of other brands and consistently acheive higher, more acceptable hatch percentages. I have calibrated and recalibrated incubation temperatures but have yet to achieve a satisfactory hatch. A couple of observations: location of the water wells is awkward. They are located in the center of the incubator, making them difficult to visualize and access with the automatic turner with eggs in place. I have not found the reference thermometer to be useful; its temperature reading is significantly different from readings of two or three thermometers that I place inside the incubator. I intend to continue to work with the incubator, adjusting as I can for improved hatch percentages, but I intend to use only my less-valuable eggs.
