These rope toys are more durable than the long ropes are. The balls last for quite some time, even if one or two of the rope sections get chewed through. Usually the rope gets bit off in chunks and are easy to pick up. I gave it a 4 because it kind of killed my vacuum after a few months with all the little strings all over the place. But my dogs love them and I have two powerful chewers (lab and pit) and the balls last over a month. I have used medium and large.
Both my boys love this toy (2yo 80lbs bulldog mix who loves to distroy toys and a 1yo high energy spaniel mix who loves to play). This heavy duty toy has outlasted everything else in the toybox and is still going strong.
